Flaring, sharp, unpleasant, and horribly wide in a few places. I have no idea
why this has three stars in the guidebook, nor why Todd Gordon calls this a
“Yosemite hand slammer”, but both Aaron and I found it to be
unpleasant, and harder than 10c. Hell, even Aaron hang-dogged it a bit, and
the rock was so sharp that it ate one of Aaron's tape gloves and one of mine.
That's never happened before! We actually ran into Todd, the “mayor of
Joshua Tree”, on the trail on the way to the climb. He gave us some good
directions, which was helpful since we had to hike way the hell out into the
Wonderland, and I don't think we ever would have found this little valley
without his help. All in all, he seemed like a really cool guy.
