After not having been back there in nearly five years, I decided to check out
the Five Ten outlet in Redlands once more, this time with Ivy. (We also went to
the Evolv outlet, just to check it out, but didn't find anything particularly
good there.) It turns out the Five Ten outlet has expanded significantly, and
has also expanded their hours a lot, so that they're now open almost like a
regular store. The selection and the deals we found this time were amazing.
Between the two of us, we got six pairs of shoes (each one pair of rock shoes,
one pair of approach shoes, and one pair of casual lightweight walking/hiking
shoes), and they averaged out to around $40 each. These shoes seem very
comfortable so far, and after having worn them on a few routes, I am cautiously
optimistic that they might finally be a model that could (almost) replace my
beloved ascents, especially for long multipitch routes.
