Black Velvet Canyon and Epinephrine An all-time classic. A little bit of everything on this one: chimneying, crack, liebacking, and beautiful face climbing. We did the 4th-class alternative start to get past another party quickly, and then simul-climbed to link the next three regular pitches, all the way up to the base of the chimneys. After that, we mostly swapped leads, and did the rest in ten more pitches, plus the long ramp at the end, which we simul-climbed. I got to lead the longest and hardest of the chimney pitches. Most memorable moments: looking around to find the birds I was hearing, and realizing that they were hundreds of feet below me, then watching them from above as they flew and dove around the cliff; also the huge roof on the second-to-last pitch (as I got there, Aaron yelled from above, “Don't forget to look down!” What incredible exposure!)
